Meet the Scholars

The first 109 Act Six scholars from Tacoma, Seattle and Spokane represent the very best emerging urban leadership that Washington has to offer. They represent six continents of the world and speak 13 native languages, with the following ethnic distribution: 37% African American, 18% Southeast Asian/Pacific Islander, 14% Hispanic, 6% Caucasian, 1% American Indian and 25% mixed heritage. While 80% of scholars come from low-income households or are the first in their family to go to college, they are defying the odds with retention and graduation rates greater than 90%.
