Meet the Scholars
The first 67 Tacoma Act Six scholars represent the very best emerging urban leadership that Tacoma has to offer. They represent six continents of the world and speak 13 native languages, with the following ethnic distribution: 37% African American, 24% Southeast Asian/Pacific Islander, 10% Hispanic, 5% Caucasian, and 24% mixed heritage. While 70% of scholars are the first in their family to go to college and 73% come from low-income households, they are defying the odds with an incredible 94% retention rate!
